For the first time ever, the AmiWest website bandwidth allowance has been exceeded! Site access was shut off at 8:30 AM PDT on Monday, July 30, 2012.

Why are we so excited about this?!? We're excited because this indicates that even more of you are tracking AmiWest this year than ever before! As always, we are working steadily behind the scenes to bring a great show to those interested in Amiga and sister systems. Since our bandwidth has just been exceeded, we are attracting a record level of interest.

This announcement is for those of you who are advance planners and have already made your hotel reservations for AmiWest 2012 at the Holiday Inn Express CalExpo, 2224 Auburn Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95821, Phone: 916.923.1100. PLEASE CANCEL THOSE RESERVATIONS.

Without going into the whole "watch factory" of detail about why, the bottom line is that the hotel management booked another conference in on top of our dates. Rather than change the dates (since several have already booked travel reservations for those dates), we are changing the venue. THE NEW VENUE IS NOT COMPLETELY NEGOTIATED YET. When negotiations are complete, the new information will be published. Another hotel will be involved.

So the Holiday Inn Express CalExpo is history. We bid them farewell. Another site is in the works. And the 19-21 October (18-21 October if you're coming to the programming conference and the show) dates are firm. AmiWest 2012 will take place on those dates. The only question is where it will be held in Sacramento.

PLEASE WATCH THIS BLOG FOR THE NEW LOCATION. This blog is the only official source of information for AmiWest. You'll find it here, ASAP.

So be sure to make your plans to attend AmiWest 2012, the Amiga show on the West Coast of the United States of America! It's all happening at our next venue in Sacramento, CA, to be announced soon. Come see the latest in Amiga hardware and software October 19-21, 2012. Attend our first-ever AmiWest Programmers conference in conjunction with AmiWest October 18-19, 2012. And watch our blog at blog.amiwest.net for breaking news of AmiWest 2012 as it happens! You don't want to miss it! Organized by the AmiWest committee, Sacramento Amiga Computer Club.

The first AmiWest AmigaOS4 Programming Seminar will be held October 18-19, 2012 in conjunction with AmiWest 2012! The seminar will be led by the AmigaOS lead developer, Steven Solie, along with other Amiga programmers.

The goal of the seminar, according to Solie, is to motivate participants to leave "wanting to code something" for AmigaOS. The language basis will be the ubiquitous "C" programming language. The seminar grew out of the need for more current Amiga software. Of course, using "C" as the base language means that programs could also be compiled for other, Amiga-like platforms, such as MOS and others, as well as classic Amiga OS versions, presuming that compilers are still available for versions before OS4.

Of course, in two days, our leaders, no matter how brilliant, can teach both basic "C" programming and how that language is used in the Amiga context. See this page for further information about the prerequisite knowledge base for participants as well as other goals, objectives and costs for the seminar.

One of our alert show attenders has pointed out some confusion engender ed by our "additional day" announcement. This additional day is dedicated to another event in conjunction with AmiWest (to be blogged soon) and does not affect the usual AmiWest show schedule. Of course, we encourage as many as possible to participate in this additional event (watch for a blog post next week).

Thanks to eliyahu for pointing this out on our blog page. BTW, you can leave helpful comments on the AmiWest blog page (blog.amiwest.net). These are very helpful to us as we communicate to improve and extend the show.

To Summarize: AmiWest Show - 19-21 October. Special Event - 18-19 October. Both show and special event are at the same location.

What would you do with your Amiga - if you could? (_____________________ ___) Last year, we did an "exit survey" to see what our attendees wanted from future shows. A majority of our attendees responded and told us that we should focus more on productivity and software development.

So this year, our theme is enable:AMIGA. Our goal is to demonstrate th at whatever you filled in on that line above can be done with an Amiga computer. Of course, this is a large task, especially considering the current atmosphere in the computer community. Other companies are investing millions in daily efforts to shape the data "world" into their shape; we have a community of dedicated users and developers. But we're accustomed to this David and Goliath scenario. And we're setting out to provide answers to those daily questions people ask when they say, "Now how am I going to do that?!?" We have an Amiga answer.

Some of our efforts are going to take advance preparation, so we're asking everyone who is planning on attending to let us know you're coming. To that end, please use our email sign-up list at the bottom of this page to let us know and to receive a few special announcements about AmiWest. We never sell any lists to anyone and our server securely stores this information, so you need have no worries about security. This way, we can create special materials in advance that relate to our show theme.
